Welcome to the first Arts Roundup of 2024, we hope you all had a wonderful New Year’s.
Hollywood’s awards season has started and Irish co-production ‘Poor Things’ has been receiving lots of attention, as well as ‘Oppenheimer’ star Cillian Murphy. Irish actors Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan have also shared attention. We have a collection of Irish films being released in 2024 and 2 more of our Q&As are on YouTube.
Save the date: Irish Film Festival are making a new doco about Irish music in Sydney. Come and see the Gaelic Club Céilí Band All-Stars play a live filmed performance at the Gasoline Pony on Friday, March 8th.

2024 Irish Movie Releases
We can’t wait to see what films and tv shows Ireland shares with us this year. In anticipation Film Ireland have put together a list of films to look out for.
Featuring the current trending film Kneecap, a Cillian Murphy film Small Things Like These, Spilt Milk staring Danielle Galligan, The Days Of Trees directed by Alan Gilsenan, and Eanna Hardwicke film The Sparrow.
There are a variety of films on the list so there is something for everyone.

Irish Highlights at Awards Shows
The Irish have been nominations happy at Hollywood’s top awards shows. Congratulations to everyone mentioned.
Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) and Andrew Scott (All Of Us Strangers) both received Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama, while Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) and Paul Mescal (All Of Us Strangers) received BAFTA nominations for Leading Actor and Supporting Actor respectively.
Star of Oppenheimer Cillian Murphy has been doing very well getting Best Actor nominations at all the awards shows. Murphy won his first first Golden Globe in January beating Keoghan and Scott who were in the same category. He’s been nominated for a SAG award, Critics Choice Award and BAFTA, and has received his first Oscar nomination.
Element Pictures, an Irish production company co-produced Poor Things which has also been doing well. The film has received 11 BAFTA nominations, 11 Oscar nominations and won 2 Golden Globes including Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
