FRÉWAKA (‘Roots’)
Haunted by a personal tragedy, home care worker, SHOO (Clare Monnelly, Small Things Like These), is sent to a remote village to care for the old and deeply troubled PEIG (Bríd Ní Neachtain) who fears that the house is infested with the Sídhe – sinister fairies who, she believes, abducted her decades before.
As the two women develop a strangely deep connection, Shoo is consumed by the old woman’s paranoia, rituals, and superstitions, eventually confronting the horrors from her own past. An unnerving and spine tingling folk horror tale from Ireland.
Directed by Aislinn Clarke, FREWAKA explores deep-seated generational trauma, Catholic guilt, and Irish mythology.
