Irish-Australian Arts News
July 2023
It’s hard to believe it’s July already – also that there’s been so much sunshine back in the Motherland! May it long continue.
This month the Irish and Australian sports community is buzzing with the countdown to the Women’s World Cup, this year being hosted in Australia and kicking off in Sydney on the 20th with the very first game against the Republic of Ireland.
You can cheer on our Girls in Green at the various screenings of the game around the country – see details below.
We’ve also got some Irish movie news, including the one everyone’s talking about right now having recently made its way Down Under; the fascinating documentary on Sinéad O’Connor.
We’ve also highlighted a few quality Film Festivals worth checking out, whilst the 2023 Galway Film Fleadh program – which our own Festival Director is off to (it’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it) – is currently being announced.
Also make sure you keep an eye on your inbox and socials as we’ll be making an important announcement about the IFF23 very soon!
FIFA Women’s World Cup
Ireland vs Australia
The FIFA Women’s World Cup is making its way to Australia and New Zealand for the 2023 competition this month!
Australia and New Zealand will be playing their first games on Thursday, July 20, with Australia’s Matildas facing the Girls in Green with kick-off at 8pm AEST.
For those unable to be in the stadium (tickets are in high demand with most sold out, however single tickets are still being released at time of sending), Irish communities around the nation are arranging screenings of the game – with no doubt plenty of ‘Italia 90s’ style craic to be had at each venue.
